A child from the island of Luta wants to see an Åga, but finding this special crow is harder than it seems. With the help of an elder, they learn about some of Luta’s birds and discover the importance of looking carefully.
About the Author
Emily Louina Cook is an environmental professional and educator
specializing in endangered species and islands. She has worked and
studied in the Mariana Islands, Hawai‘i, Madagascar, and more. Emily
wanted to tell a story that would help people learn about the Åga and
birds in Luta that are often mistaken for the Åga. Emily enjoys cooking,
swimming, spending time with her friends and family, and birds.
About the Illustrator
Joanne F. Almajose (JoyAlma) is an illustrator and artist focused on
nature and fantasy. A Filipina born and raised in the island of Guam,
she earned her BFA in Visual Arts at the University of Guam. JoyAlma
is known for using distinct color palettes depicting fauna such as birds
alongside nature. She believes endangered and extinct species deserve
to be discussed in the form of art.
